Teh Pao's Maintenance: May 2014

This is an ongoing effort to keep track on pet finances. Third year in action, and it marks not just the changes in diet, but also the effect of inflation in this country.

Last month was a record breaker, I didn't spend a single cent on Teh Pao, and I doubt I will ever see a zero on budgeting anytime soon.

Money spent in May 2014
Food and Treats: RM108.95
Veterinary and Medical: RM45 RM20
Accessories and Miscellaneous: N/A

TOTAL = RM153.95 RM128.95

Food and Treats
Combined both food and treats expenses because I been making my own treats at home.

Paid RM68 for nearly 5KG of grass fed, free range cow tripe from a friend who saved it for me when he went back to his hometown to help in family's kenduri. Ahhh~ the value of friendship.

Other purchases are mainly vege, yogurt and some marked down Aussie beef from local stores. Teh Pao loves yogurt and I noticed it does help with her bowel, I been adding some berries and other fruits here and there in the yogurt before freezing as a treats.

Dinner: Bone in mutton + goat intestine + boiled chinese cabbage + frozen plain yogurt with blue berries

Teh Pao has texture issues with organs, and will only eat them semi frozen, I've found a solution to balance out her meal by cutting livers ( and other organs) into cube sizes, boiled and later packed in batches before freezing. It was a big hit and I'm happy not to deal with the mess on daily basis.

We still have a quarter bag of Orijen Adult left from previous purchase ( monthsssss ago) and I do plan to get another bag before resuming work- travel lifestyle. Received a text messages from our vet that Orijen price has gone up again due to the increase cost in shipping ( and drop in currency value!). I'm glad I've switched to raw, which by now, consider much more affordable, and healthier without the frequent visits to vet's office for her skin condition.

Photo taken during allergy season, note the chest area.
She still scratches, but not as bad when she was on full kibble based diet.

Veterinary and Medical
Annual vaccine required by council by- laws. Teh Pao received 6 in 1 when she was a puppy, then we switched to 9 in 1 because of the increase in rat population within the neighbourhood. Another factor that prompted the change is many vets uses generic these days, and our current vet is one of the very few who carries Pfizer but he has only 9 in 1. Cost of vaccine is RM45 each shot but he charged me less than half the price for some simple paperworks that I did for him quite some time back. Will have to get him a gift when Deepavali comes.

" I is love doll, problem?"

I did not buy Teh Pao any toys lately because Pet World Malaysia 2014 is coming, and that is when all the established brands are on sale. I like Kong toys, because they're really sturdy compared to other brands I've bought ( and thrown out) in the past. Teh Pao is a sucker for plush toys, and she never like rubber toys, so choices are pretty limited in local stores.
