I never like the tooth fairy, and certainly gonna hate it from now on.

We are still in the first week of October, Teh Pao broke a molar while gnawing on her favorite toy on sunny afternoon - frozen kong with stuffed minced meat.

This is how Teh Pao's broken tooth looks like, and no, this is not her tooth.

Not quite sure how that happen, partly my fault. Both the PAOs took turn chewing on the Kong, then when it was Teh Pao's turn ( technically, she snatched it over), I left them unattended for about 5 minutes for bathroom break. Came back to a bloody Kong and the girl is still happily chewing/ licking on it with the much anticipated Dao Sah watching by the side. Checked Teh Pao's gum and saw blood oozing out from the cracked tooth, lucky it didn't take long to stop the bleeding. Phone their vet to request for a slot in the evening itself but was told to monitor for a night and see how is Teh Pao doing ( up till now, she didn't show any sign of pain though) and check in the next morning.

As expected, Teh Pao dislikes the vet clinic..

The vet manage to take a quick look at the broken tooth without turning his finger into Teh Pao's morning tea. Don't see any exposed pulp yet, but to be on the safe side, the vet suggested to put Teh Pao on a short period of antibiotic, calcium and vitamin B to ward off any possibilities of infection and continue to monitor Teh Pao's broken tooth for the next few weeks and see if there are any changes of color that indicates infected or dead tooth which will then require surgery to remove it. =(

Medications for the broken tooth.. I'm crossing my finger and hope for the best.

Spoke to the vet about availability of root canal therapy if things turn bad, but as expected, up to date there are none with the necessary expertise nor equipment to perform anything, except for tooth extraction. So we're hoping for the best, and was told to think over the IF part - as in what do I want to do with Teh Pao's broken tooth, to remove it once and for all if things turn ugly [ extraction], or put her on antibiotic whenever there are signs of infections/ possibilities of infections which is a long process [ management]. =/

We shall go on a second opinion, lets see who else I can get..

  1. Poor Teh Pao... Maya broke her tooth a while ago and it really cost us a fortune to fix it. Getting a second opinion would be good. Hope you can have it figured out soon.

  2. Maya: I'm crossing my fingers and hope for the best. Here in M'sia, veterinary practice limits to the basic ( GP), have been to another 3 vets over the weekend, and all suggested to remove that tooth ( though it looks fine to me). Root canal is not available in veterinary practice.. let alone crowning. =(

  3. That's too bad... :(
If it looks like the picture, you probably want to extract it even if the pulp is not visible. It would be hard to clean, and may still cause pain. Things will get much worse if infected.

  5. Maya: Well, I suppose you're right. After much hassle of cleaning, pill propping, and a couple more trips to different vets, I manage to get an appointment fixed to remove that tooth.. =(

    M.C.: *Touchwood* >_<
