Retractable Leash - are you one of them?

Came across this video in facebook lately and I thought I would share it here.

While many dog owners in this country ( for some strange reasons) adores retractable leash, here is a reminder that no matter how much you spent for a retractable leash, always have a proper leash handy. It cost only a fraction of the price you pay for that friggin expensive retractable leash, I've even seen Daiso selling decent quality leash which is suitable for small size dog.

When Teh Pao first joined this family, the idea of getting one had indeed slipped my mind mainly because she sucks at her recall ( thank goodness that improved), and she would bolt off the moment she got the chance, running freely, happily greetings other dogs while enjoying the Catch-Me-If-You-Can game. I'm glad I didn't.

On many occasions I've met and seen dog owners within my neighbourhood allowed their dogs "roam" freely with that retractable leash while they kept their mouth busy and attention elsewhere, ignoring the fact that their beloved four legged companion were either not properly trained or not well socialized with either human or other dogs, or both, creating danger to their pet dogs and others. It is already bad that our dogs don't have access to basically everywhere in public, and that living in a multicultural country, some are especially sensitive with the presence of dogs. So why create unnecessary tension? While many dog owners demanded public users to respect our rights to walk our dogs without harassment, I personally believed in mutual respect, and that as a responsible dog owner, cleaning after our dogs is mandatory, there is also a purpose leash law is imposed upon dog owners.

For instance, majority of the dogs in this country are not properly trained and well socialized, more than half of the canine population are not properly vaccinated or has never been to a vet in their entire life nor heard of vaccination.

Teh Pao was nabbed, for many times, by different dogs belonged to different neighbours on different occasions. Most were not on leash while their owners "walk" them, some are on leash but they don't seem to understand the purpose of using a leash, and there is this group of dog owners with their bunch of noisy, grumpy, typical alpha male charactered chihuahua/ tiny poodle/ min-pin/ you name it would often allow their precious little dogs "roam freely" on a retractable leash and terrorized other dogs ALL THE TIME. Now I see that as a form of nuisance, and I personally was very much offended not just because these tiny little dogs are devil to others, it is more about the attitude of the owners - no apology, no interest in controlling their dogs when these precious angels of theirs attacked and not even bothered watch out for fast moving car while they allowed these "babies" of theirs to roam freely on these retractable leashes.

So pray tell, why on earth would anyone pay that exorbitant amount of money and worshipped these retractable leash but can't work things out in their brain to exercise caution and reasonable control over their dogs?
